A Day For Me

Since I started working my current job 13 years ago I have never once worked on my birthday. I earn vacation so I use it. I take the day off and spend it the way I want to. Sometimes I schedule a dental appointment (what better gift to myself than fresh, smooth, clean teeth), a haircut, a massage, etc. My sister usually will meet me for lunch too. Lone shopping without the kids. Once I had children I decided to take their birthdays off too. I spend the day with them one on one. When they were real small I took them to a city park, to get their yearly picture taken, to lunch, to visit with their grandparents, etc. Now that they are getting old enough to decide what they want to do we do those things. These are days with no chores or busy activities. I get to focus on me and I get to focus on them.
