A Penny For Your Thoughts |
It seems that kids often are "mum" when you ask them the question "what did you do at school today?" For some reason getting an answer always seems to be like pulling teeth. When my daughter was in preschool, I came up with an idea that I thought might help encourage her to share more about her day. It's called "a penny for your thoughts". I would ask her the question and if she didn't have an answer, I would pay her a penny for her thoughts. It was a small amount, but it was enough to encourage her to tell me something. She quickly caught on to the idea and now rarely shares without getting paid, but she happily tells me a lot more about her day. I give her a penny for every thing she shares that happened at school. We have a special bank that they money goes in and I get to learn a lot more about her school day.
