Enjoy a Bottle of Wine on Me

A few years ago I met several old friends at a restaurant. We ate, laughed, shared stories and had a wonderful time. After a couple of hours we started to wrap up the night when the waiter stopped by with a bottle of wine. We all glanced at one another with puzzled looks. "Who ordered the wine?" someone finally said. The waiter answered and told us that the bottle of wine was ordered by a husband and wife that were sitting at a nearby table. They already left the restaurant so we couldn’t thank them or even see who the mystery couple was, but they asked the waiter to bring over a bottle of wine as their compliments to the women who were having so much fun. Believe it or not, the wine that they selected has since become my favorite (Black Opal Shiraz) and I enjoy a good memory every time I have glass. In addition, the couple’s random act of kindness has inspired me to try the same trick. About once a year I spot some friends or a romantic couple at dinner and send over an anonymous bottle of wine as my compliments. My hope is that it may make them smile and inspire them to shower a simple act of kindness upon another stranger.
