Fill the Recipe Box Bridal Shower

When my niece got engaged she confessed to me that she didn't know how to cook. She could hardly heat up a can of corn without causing trouble. To help her with her shortcomings, I scheduled a couple Saturday cooking classes for her at my home. We went over the basics and I gave her a few of my time-tested recipes.

When it was time for her Aunts and I to organize her bridal shower, I suggested that we ask all the attendees to bring their favorite recipe and a kitchen item (pie pan, measuring cup, spatula, etc) to completment it. We sent a blank 4x6 card with each of the invitation and I bought a beautiful recipe box to present to her at the shower. The shower was a success, not only did my niece fill her kitchen with a variety of much-needed items, but she had a recipe box filled with wonderful recipes from her best friends.

We're organizing a wedding shower for my daughter-in-law right now and I'm going to suggest we do the same thing. She doesn't know how to cook, but I'm sure she would appreciate a few private lessons from her soon-to-be mother-in-law followed by a kitchen-themed shower and Cartwright family recipes. I had a co-worker put together a family cookbook using and it turned out great. I'm going to give it a try myself!
