Making Memories from Wine

John and I started collecting wine corks so we could make a corkboard for our kitchen. I would put them aside when we would open up a bottle of wine. Then on the day that John proposed, we opened up a bottle of wine to celebrate. I took out the cork and threw it in with the others. Then I decided I wanted to remember that particular cork, so I took out a permanent black marker and wrote the date "February 14, 2003" and the words "JC/CG Marriage Proposal... Yes!" Ever since that date, when we open a bottle of wine with friends, I get out a marker or pen and put down the date and everyone initials the cork. Now I’ve assembled the corks into a corkboard for our kitchen that holds not only notes, but many years worth of fond memories.
