Mother's Day Garden

My Mom loves flowers and she loves gardening. She has a vegetable garden as well as many beds of beautiful flowers. For Mother's Day each year, I take my Mom to the local garden center and we pick out an assortment of new annuals for her flower beds and flower pots. I usually treat her to lunch and throw in new pair of gardening gloves too! Then we head back to her house and spend the afternoon planting flowers in the garden. When we're about finished, my husband brings over my children to help join in the fun. We let them each put together a pot of assorted flowers for Grandma's patio. (Two years ago I painted their name on a flower pot along with their handprint.) The kids have fun participating in the gardening and I think Grandma cherishes those flowers more than all the other flowers in the garden. The kids always look forward to going over to Grandma's and seeing how their plants are doing throughout the summer and in the process they learn something about gardening from my Mom. It's a wonderful way to celebrate Mother's Day for all of us.
