Rice Krispies Dog Bones |
After I graduated from college and found an apartment that took dogs, I began the search for a dog of my own. The search led me to a red 2-year old Dachshund named Julie. I picked her up on May 4, 1995 and I loved her from the minute I set eyes on her. She was a great dog and spoiled to boot. When her 3rd birthday rolled around I wanted to celebrate. So I bought her a birthday hat and made her a Rice Krispies bar shaped into a dog bone. She gobbled it up with excitement. Now every October 20th, Julie puts on her birthday hat and gobbles down her Rice Krispies bar dog bone.

Try this homemade dog treat recipe:
Peanut Butter Goodies
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 cups water
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1/4 cup applesauce
- 2 eggs
- 2 tsp. vanilla
- 1/3 cup peanut butter
- 2-1/2 cups whole wheat flour
- 3/4 cup regular flour
- 1 cup cornmeal
- 3/4 cup oats
Directions:
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Mix liquid ingredients together well. Combine the dry ingredients in a large bowl. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients bowl and mix thoroughly until smooth. Roll into a ball; place ball on floured surface. Roll out to 1/2" thickness. Cut into desired shapes (bone-shaped cookie cutters work great!). Place on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake for 20 minutes; turn off the oven and leave the biscuits in the oven for one hour to harden.
