The Tooth Fairy Pillow |
When I was in first grade my first tooth became loose. My Mom made me a miniature yellow pillow with a tiny pocket on the front to hold my tooth safe for the tooth fairy. The pillow had beautiful white lace around the edges and a dainty flower pattern. (I remember the fabric well, because Mom let me pick it out.) Between the loose tooth and the new little pillow, I could hardly wait for the tooth to fall out. Finally when it did, I tucked my tooth safely in the pocket and laid it next to me in my bed before I went to sleep. When I woke up in the morning, the tooth was gone and a crisp one dollar bill was in its place.
That same little yellow pillow held many teeth over the years. When it wasn’t being used, it was kept safe in my nightstand drawer. The little yellow pillow is a fond memory from my childhood and it’s now safe in my childhood keepsake box. Now at the sign of their first loose tooth, I present each of my nieces and nephews with a cute little tooth fairy pillow of their own.
